About Us
The Sydney International Equestrian Centre is a world-class venue featuring state-of-the-art design in a rural environment. It is set on 96 hectares of magnificent parkland in Western Sydney, just 45km from Sydneys central business district and its famous harbour.
Construction for the Sydney International Equestrian Centre began in 1997 and was completed in 1999 to host the 2000 Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games Equestrian events. During this time it was centre-stage to elite performances from athletes such as Julie Higgins, who won two gold medals in the Paralympic equestrian dressage championships, and Andrew Hoy, Philip Dutton, Matt Ryan and Stuart Tinney, who collected gold for Australia in the Equestrian mixed individual three-day teams event.
Since the 2000 Olympics, the site has evolved to become a superb venue for many sporting, corporate and community pursuits including weddings, children’s events and product launches. The NSW Government designed the Sydney International Equestrian Centre for greater public use after the games, and it is managed by NSW Sport and Recreation a division of Communites NSW for this purpose.
In keeping with Sydney’s Olympic green theme, the site’s development has transformed depleted farmland into native parkland. It forms part of the Sydney Western Regional Park, 580 hectares of natural parkland, which was developed simultaneously to provide sustainable benefits to the local and wider community.
Importantly, the area has become a living museum to remnants of Cumberland Plain Woodland, which holds sacred sites of archaeological significance for the traditional Aboriginal owners, the Darug people, and early European settlement.
